CAMQG members (and one guest) waited for a severe thunderstorm to pass before venturing out to the regular May meeting on May 15. See the meeting minutes. We laughed because it seems that there has been terrible weather every third Tuesday of the month during 2018!
The picture to the left is from MaryEllen's program, where she shared techniques for mosaic quilts by Cheryl Lunch Quilts. MaryEllen says that she either completes projects at retreats or on what she calls "Fun Sewing Friday", which is fun, but then she has guilt for spending time on something fun in stead of working.
Several members had items to share with the group. Melanie shared a self portrait project she had started in a class, and a bag that she made as a gift.
Mary Ellen showed several diaper bags that she had made as part of a drive for the Capital Area Pregnancy Center. She says she won the fabric she used for part of the bags, and wasn't sure what to do with it, but that this was the perfect project for it.
Marla made an Amy Butler bag using the challenge fabric for the American Sewing Guild. She added another color and used a decorative stitch on her machine to top stitch around the top. We decided it was starting to look like an unofficial Bag Night at CAMQG!
Beth shared a quilt made from a Villa Rosa Designs pattern and quilted by Nancy in a triangle design called Prism. There was a short discussion on why the quilt could be considered modern, with group members pointing out the negative space, the lack of a border, and the modern quilting design.
Does this look like fun? Join us for our next meeting on Tuesday, June 19. Email Capital Areamqg@gmail.com for more information.
