Inspiration

We had a great meeting last night and I hope everyone made it home safe before the impending ice storm.

Modern Minute

Jill's "Modern Minute" this month touched on Negative Space.  We looked through Pinterest pages of how different quilters used their negative space.  We had a discussion of how, for some people, they view negative space as another opportunity to get creative with quilting.  Others may see it as a blank slate that needs to be filled with fabric.  Either way, you can't go wrong.  It is all up to interpretation!

Put Down the Quilting Book!  Alternate Inspiration

We all love to buy and look through quilting books.  But if we are always looking at quilts, we may never see what else we could create.  What are some other places for inspiration?

tile work
carpets
architecture
coloring books
zentangle drawings
graphic designers
woodwork
hubcaps
paintings

Where else do you find inspiration?

Mad Libs and Quilts???

To finish up the evening.  We did a Mad Lib and came up with the following words.

Now, take three (3) words and use them to inspire a quilt drawing.  Instead of showing you what we all came up with (that would stump your own creativity), you pick three words and try it out yourself.
Enjoy!

Happy New Year!

Our next meeting is Tuesday January 20 at the Camp Hill Giant Community Room at 6:30 for Social, 6:45 for the Meeting.  Check your email for what to bring this month.  I hope everyone had a great holiday and a little break, if that was possible.

Last Month we had our Holiday Party that consisted of White Elephant gifting.  And what a Hoot it was! We got a little stealing going on which always makes it more fun.  Here is the table of the goodies.

Also, we each made a placemat for our dinner.  We were given the dimensions and needed to make some type of a modern quilted placemat.  When we arrived, we needed to put the placemats down at a seat that was vacant and we could not sit at our placemat.  When it was done, we each got to take home someone else's creation.  What a fun gift!

Here are some examples.

They are all so different but so creative!

And look at the binding on this one.  I see a sewing day tutorial idea!

If anyone has the time, The Philadelphia Modern Quilt Guild is hosting Thomas Knauer in Burlington, NJ this weekend Sunday January 18.   This event looks like an amazing opportunity!

Have a great Week!
