Happy St. Patrick's Day
Announcements:
Look for the Global Quilt Connection link in early May for the next Quilter's Sampler- May 16th and 17th. Two days of sampling new teachers and ideas to view online. More info to come.
We are encouraging all members to sign up for member spotlight. It isn't just for introductions, it is an opportunity for members to share a skill, hobby, passion, or just an idea you want to explore. 10-15 minute talk about whatever you find interesting.
Debbie L. will be sending out an updated membership list for 2026.
Collected a number of quilt tops for the church in Gettysburg who will be finishing the tops. Thanks to Cory, Joan, Donna and Janet who all made tops. We will still be collecting tops so bring them to future meetings as you make them. Remember they need to be 48" or less in one direction.
2026 Quilt Challenge
Maximalism- This type of style is the opposite of minimalism, which is a style characterized by the “less is more” mentality. Instead of incorporating limited design elements and colors, maximalism embraces vibrant colors in a “more is more” mentality.
Bold colors, contrasting colors, variety of fabric styles/textures. Think everything AND the kitchen sink.
Challenge is to make a quilt, any size, that exemplifies maximalism. Finished projects are due at the September meeting. Participants will be entered in a random draw for gift certificates from Half Moon Handwerks in New Cumberland.
Presentation: Fabrics of Tula Pink by Karen Sykes
Tula Pink is a fabric designer whose fabrics are a perfect example of maximalism in design. She incorporates animals and faces into many of her fabrics and has a consistent color theme across her different fabric lines so you can mix and match. Karen brought in a sample of her fabrics and was generous to allow members to take a snippet if they liked something.
2026 Round Robin
Leslie Robinson is leading us on a new round robin adventure.
This time, participants will be adding whatever they want to the starting piece. It can be a block or blocks, only one one side, or multiple sides. Each participant is starting with a theme that comes with the starting piece. You are free to cut up whatever you want and you encouraged to include fabric scraps to give future sewers fabric for continuity.
This year participants are: Leslie R., Donna L., Debbie L., Debby M., Kris B., Gay W., and Cathy M. As blocks grow each month, pictures are being taken so we will be able to see the progression from each member. Photos are being collected by Cori N. When sending your photos to Cori be sure to include the last name of the original owner and what number you are in the adding to the project. The final reveal will be in November.
Show 'N Share
Joan D. - an adorable highland cow with yarn for hair.
Joan D. -Finished her 2024 Round Robin
Gay W. - Blue Scraps, cut into 2.5" strips and sewn together with a light blue square between strips. Sewn like a Jelly Roll Race. Her husband saw it and loved it. It doesn't have to be complicated to be appreciated.
Karen D- quilted sweatshirt for her daughter's birthday. The sleeves and pocket were removed from the original and then used as the pattern for the quilting to be sewn to.
Karen D - thought it would be simple with half square triangles and stripes but every one is a different size and keeping track of the colors was challenging.
Kris B. - Cute chicks done by paper piecing.
Kris B. - Paper Beauty, a wedding gift for nephew
Donna L - found a quilted heart in the elevator at the GIANT. First one she has seen "in the wild". She wants to make some and share on her travels.
Condolences...
