Our
member spotlight this month was Kathy. She told us a fascinating story
of how she grew up with her grandma using treadle machine, but then
didn’t keep sewing in her early adulthood.
About 9 years ago feel and broke her knee and couldn’t walk
for 4 months. She put together this quilt top to exercise her knee
using the treadle sewing machine, and then started sewing more for her
grandkids.
Later she found the American Sewing Guild and started making handbags. She loves upcycling and using scraps. She made bags and wallets from military uniforms and American Girl doll clothes with upcycled children’s
clothing to sell at craft shows. She also "scavenged" bag hardware from Goodwill. She also got into making t-shirt quilts for her family members. This summer she’s practicing piecing because until this point
she hasn’t done much beyond squares.
