Here's what CAMQG members have been up to this month and shared at the August meeting!
Marla showed a quilt that was a long time in the making. She bought the kit and pattern in 2009 at
the Houston quilt show, finally finished the top. The pattern is called The Space Between. 
Nancy got a new phone case - she ordered it on Amazon. She passed it around and we were all envious of the neat design!
Karen brought a finished quilt top which she made expressly for her granddaughter, who
has a birthday in September. She was born Sept
9, 2009 and someone asked why she didn't make a nine patch! At any rate, now that her granddaughter has grown, she needs a bigger quilt now. One fish on the bottom is
swimming the opposite way. Karen is going to
try out her new Pounce to get it quilted with wavy lines.
Cordell informed us that this quilt is made from old fabric from her stash.. This quilt has
mostly cotton, unlike some of her other quilts.
It was quilted using the walking foot. She also
made her pants from a Sewing Workshop pattern.
Gloria showed her first quilt, which was just started in June! She started it on a cruise, which she went on with her sister, that offered quilt classes and a sewing room that was available 24/7. On the cruise there were 63 quilting participant, three rooms and three instructors offering three different classes. Gloria took one class out of the 3
classes offered. As a beginning quilter,
it was great because she had access to the instructor as she worked and could ask questions when she got stuck. Back to the quilt - the quilt was pre-cut and ready for her
to put together. It was quilted by MaryEllen. And she’s keeping it for herself!
Debby has an orange couch in living room and made this quilt specifically to match. She likes straight
line quilting, but this one has squiggles. It is made from Scandinavian fabric and has an equally interesting back!
Beth showed a Quilt of Valor. She saw a pattern sort of like this on the
internet, which she used as inspiration and then made this quilt based on the
amount of fabric that she had in her stash.
MaryEllen made a purse out of Beauty and the Beast fabric. She went with black accents but regrets it and
wishes she would have gone with the purple vegan leather. The zipper turned out wonky, but she left it on her cutting table and went to Oregon
for a week. When she came back she saw it and thought she
would finish it. Interesting anecdote: while she was pounding the rivets in she bounced a coffee cup off her work table. 
For her next trick, MaryEllen showed a quilt that she made completely on her long arm, except for binding. She pieced it, appliqued it, and of course quilted it, all on the long arm.
Melanie showed a quilted mini that she said scared her husband when she showed it to him. She's going to hang it on her sewing room door to remind him not to take her fabric scissors! She also showed a polygon quilt started in a class taught be Gyleen Fitzgerald in Houston. Melanie likes to have a new quilt to hang in her office on the first day of school, and this is the quilt that she is displaying starting this fall.
Melanie also showed batik fabric that she picked up on a recent trip to Malaysia. She shared the different ways that one buys batik, and how each state in Malaysia has their own style of batik. Melanie also showed how Malaysians traditionally wear their batik.
