June 2024 Meeting

June 2024

Our meeting coincided with Quilt Label Week. Chelsea and Sharon gave us some great information on the importance of labels. Here are some examples from our members.

Sew and Share

Karen D - had three goals in mind: a queen size quilt, all from her stash (including backing), and the use of circles. What a beautiful improvisational outcome of greens, purples and blues in various darks, lights, and medium values.

Deb and Donna L. have MANY of these versatile bags. Contact them if you have use for some free bags.

Joan - This unique pair of soft and stable shoes was customer made from
her own fabric through a HalfMoon Handwerks workshop.

Chelsea - Chelsea enjoyed playing with selvedges in this small purse and name tag.

Gay W. proudly showed of this runner and the small sampler of leftover fabrics. And what fun this colorful and versatile bag.

Next Month
Summer Picnic- we’re providing refreshments, you provide fabric to participate in the summer games. It’s not the Olympics so no need to train ahead of time.

Presenters: Debby M, Mary Ellen W. Debbie L.  presented information on quilting negative space. Debby M.  Shared her favorite method of walking foot quilting; Mary Ellen W. Couldn’t make it but shared her notes on long arm quilting and edge to edge. Janet F.- This creative and symbolic “quilt around the square” begins with the town square with each border expanding to the surrounding forest and eventually the stars of space.

Deb L. - Ella, Deb’s friends’ dog, is rendered in this quilt made by freezer paper piecing with 2” squares. A technique she learned in a class with Timna Tarr.

Donna - This inspirational scroll is a form of “slow” stitching done entirely
by hand with an inked background. Notice the fine detail.

Tasha - This “river runs thru it” quilt was part of a group venture in which
the river lines up in all the quilts when placed side by side.

Tasha - This buck and doe pair she did for her parents, illustrate the difference in quilting needs
when negative space is increased by removal of some element design.

Chelsea - This exquisite brain was paper pieced for Mental Health
Awareness month (May) and is also fitting for June - Alzheimer and Brain
Awareness month.

Karen S - Karen asked the group input on quilting ideas - we hope she
shares again when the quilting is done.

April 2024

Presenter: Cordell Affeldt: Quilt Critiques

Cordell did a fantastic job of examining how to give and receive constructive critique of quilts. It is more than just liking something but understanding how to look at quilts and understand what makes you like,or not like. Is it the design, value, construction, theme, etc. We then practiced by looking at quilts.

Member Spotlight: Debby Moreland
Debby shared pictures of how she decorates her home with quilts. She had several favorite spots where she rotates quilts for different seasons and holidays.
