New Business
After submitting our bylaws to the national organization they informed us we were missing some required sections that needed to be added with specific wording. Amended bylaws were distributed to members for review and voting will occur next month.
Donna shared a charity project a guild in Texas has undertaken. They are asking people to make a poppy block in bright colors. They plan to sew them together with a goal of 1000 quilts. The project is “Hugs for Texas”. Donna will collect any blocks members may want to make up until the July meeting and we will mail them together.
Upcoming Events
May 16 & 17 -
Global Quilt Connection Sampler- the link will be sent out about one week in advance. The presentations will be available for viewing for seven days following the event.
Presentation
Cory provided information and demonstration on a method of
improv piecing she learned from
Cindy Grisdela. Improv can be freeing because there are no rules and you just need to play around with what works for you. She also shared a clever way to hang her quilts. She puts a board into the quilt sleeve and then attaches a picture hook. The quilt is supported and it is easy to hang up on a single nail.
Discussion Panel
Karen S. shared a sample of Big Stitch and Cory shared a project done with
Kawandi, which uses big stitch running stitch.
Sew and Share
Janet F.- contributed another quilt top for the Gettysburg Church, she even included the backing and binding.
Debbie L.- has been collecting spool patterns for year and this year she decided to stitch as many as she could. Over the Easter holiday she made a
donut table runner. She was able to quilt it on her sit down machine. She quilted the donut frostings in different patterns.
Karen S. - saw a technique online to use snippets of fabric to make a small confetti quilt top. The fabric is fused to a background and a water soluble stabilizer was put on top. She quilted it all over and then washed away the stabilizer. She also made a very stylish bag from Sally Tomato out of faux leather.
Gay W. - she also completed her round robin blocks from last year. To make the quilt bigger she added plain blocks that she showcased her quilting in. A piano key border tied it all together.
Sharon F. - she made some cute little pouches that are perfect for knitters to store their yarn in. Pattern is
Kato Japanese Bag. She made a darling little pillow- Sunrise/Sunset based on the sun blocks Leslie had been collecting.
Karin- made a wonky star quilt for Sharon using scraps from past projects they had worked on together. On the back was a large star which she purposely put in rainbow order because that is how Sharon likes her colors.
