May meeting and Spot Light

May meeting minutes

Our member spotlight this month was Cindy Todoroff.

Cindy started quilting 10 years ago. Her passion is landscape quilts. She enjoys creating pictures and all her quilted wall hangings are hung throughout her house. She has used books and even took a class in Italy to inspire her designs.

Here are some of the quilts she shared with us.

The next 4 quilts were created by Cindy and can be found hanging in her church. The scenes are from the Susquehanna River near Harrisburg.

May Sew and Share

Elise used a pattern from Bonnie Hunter, Tropical Twist using batiks from her stash. She is gifting this beautiful quilt  to her husband who is deployed.

Cordell created a custom design Pot Cozy for her husband who is the cook when he canoe camps. He can place this cozy in a water proof bag to deliver his meals. All the materials are from her stash.
She also made this stunning jacket from a Vogue pattern. She does all her own fabric designs.

Cindy made this  great Clydebank Tote from Sew Sweetness by Sara Lawson. The pattern is free and can be found online. She also made this colorful quilt using various cottons. She used the "quilt as you go" technique to put the blocks together. The pattern is Marvelous Mosaic from the book Walking Foot Quilting by Leah Day. More information can be found on Leah Day's website.

Gay shared her Birdie Sak from Amy Butler using fabric from Havana. She created 2 terrific " I spy" quilts for her grandsons using 10" Layer Cakes. Her last project was a Binding Tool Star from the Missouri Star Quilt Co. The fabric is from her stash and she custom quilted on her longarm.

Debby made a Haori jacket using a linen blend from Wiksten. She also made a whimsical quilt using an alphabet panel for her grand daughter.

Our guest Kathy made a beautiful pocketbook, that she shared with us.

Mary Ellen created this cute "Here a Chick" quilt from a kit she bought at Half Moon Handwreks. The quilting looks like chicken wire which she quilted on her long arm. She also finished a UFO , a wall hanging from a class she took at the Hershey quilt show, Log Cabin Stars.

April Sew and Share

Sew and Share is one of our favorite monthly activities.  Members bring items that they have finished over the course of the month and share with the group.

Nancy did not sew anything this month, but she did get a cool new quilting tatoo!

Marla shared a quilt that took 3 years to make from her scraps.  She said it was a fun project for her to work on because it chronicles the history of her personal sewing projects of over 30 years.  MaryEllen quilted the project, and it is backed with Moda Grunge.

Jenna shared a tablerunner from the pattern shared by the Lohmans last year.  She also shared some of the blocks that she has done using the English paper piecing method.  She says it is addicting and that we should all try it.

Gloria shared a hanging quilt made from a panel of sunflowers and blue birds.  It isn't finished yet, but this is her last meeting with us and her last opportunity to share.  Quilted by MaryEllen.

Sharon shared a beautiful cat quilt that she made from a pattern that she found on Pinterest.  Each block has a hand embroidered heart, the inside of which is machine quilted.  She used all Kaffe Fasset fabrics, and mae it for her niece who is a "crazy cat lady"!

Donna shared a rabbit that she embroidered on her mother's antique dresser scarf.  We also enjoyed the story of how she did this handwork while waiting for her car to get fixed!

Debra is still working hard on getting her UFOs finished!  She shared a quilt she made from a kit in Houston that is made with Tula Pink's All Star Animals fabrics.

Debra also shared a quilt she made from solid rectangles.  She challenged herself on the quilting, and alternated between straight line and curved designs, as well as free motion and computerized designs.  She quilted ribbon candy in the sashing.

Elise shared a king size scrappy quilt from a pattern called Jamestown Landing that is a wedding gift for her sister.

Beth shared her logo challenge quilt, and explained that she incorporated both the colors and the hexagon shapes into her design.  She utilized straight line machine quilting for a wonderful textured effect.
