July 2024 - Summer Picnic

July 2024

We celebrated summer with an indoor picnic and some games.

Sharon created her own version of Scattegories with a quilting twist- Quiltagories. We divided into groups and played several rounds. Winners received the fat quarters that were the “ante’ to play.

Show and Share

Cordell displayed three items: a purse, dress in which she used common household items such as dish drain for textile dye prints and a scrappy quilt which used three pairs of complementary colors. She commented on this improv piecing “this opened a door in my heart.”

Amy displayed five of her quilts. The twelve block sampler used black/white and a third color picked from a bag of crayons.

(Not pictured)Karen S made several “trivia zip pouches” which she plans to donate to a fundraiser.
Gay had two patriotic themed quilts, one a log cabin and the other a runner. She also made a neutral themed quilt for a friend.

June 2024 Meeting

June 2024

Our meeting coincided with Quilt Label Week. Chelsea and Sharon gave us some great information on the importance of labels. Here are some examples from our members.

Sew and Share

Karen D - had three goals in mind: a queen size quilt, all from her stash (including backing), and the use of circles. What a beautiful improvisational outcome of greens, purples and blues in various darks, lights, and medium values.

Deb and Donna L. have MANY of these versatile bags. Contact them if you have use for some free bags.

Joan - This unique pair of soft and stable shoes was customer made from
her own fabric through a HalfMoon Handwerks workshop.

Chelsea - Chelsea enjoyed playing with selvedges in this small purse and name tag.

Gay W. proudly showed of this runner and the small sampler of leftover fabrics. And what fun this colorful and versatile bag.

Next Month
Summer Picnic- we’re providing refreshments, you provide fabric to participate in the summer games. It’s not the Olympics so no need to train ahead of time.

May 2024

May 2024

Presenters: Debby M, Mary Ellen W. Debbie L.  presented information on quilting negative space. Debby M.  Shared her favorite method of walking foot quilting; Mary Ellen W. Couldn’t make it but shared her notes on long arm quilting and edge to edge. Debbie L. presented information on free-motion quilting along with design ideas and strategies to think about when coming up with your quilting plan.

Sew & Share

Janet F.- This creative and symbolic “quilt around the square” begins with the town square with each border expanding to the surrounding forest and eventually the stars of space.

Deb L. - Ella, Deb’s friends’ dog, is rendered in this quilt made by freezer paper piecing with 2” squares. A technique she learned in a class with Timna Tarr.

Donna - This inspirational scroll is a form of “slow” stitching done entirely
by hand with an inked background. Notice the fine detail.

Tasha - This “river runs thru it” quilt was part of a group venture in which
the river lines up in all the quilts when placed side by side.

Tasha - This buck and doe pair she did for her parents, illustrate the difference in quilting needs
when negative space is increased by removal of some element design.

Chelsea - This exquisite brain was paper pieced for Mental Health
Awareness month (May) and is also fitting for June - Alzheimer and Brain
Awareness month.

Karen S - Karen asked the group input on quilting ideas - we hope she
shares again when the quilting is done.

April 2024

Presenter: Cordell Affeldt: Quilt Critiques

Cordell did a fantastic job of examining how to give and receive constructive critique of quilts. It is more than just liking something but understanding how to look at quilts and understand what makes you like,or not like. Is it the design, value, construction, theme, etc. We then practiced by looking at quilts.

Member Spotlight: Debby Moreland
Debby shared pictures of how she decorates her home with quilts. She had several favorite spots where she rotates quilts for different seasons and holidays.

Chris displayed her “practice” wedding ring quilt in preparation for the two
quilts she will make and gift to her newlywed daughters.

Debby M made this grey and blue quilt two sided quilt as a

March 2024 Monthly Meeting

March 2024

Sew and Share

Karen S displayed her adorable dog replicated here in the textures of scrappy quilting. She also shared her technique in building the image.

Chelsea’s 80” x 80” striking monotone with peach quilt was made entirely from her stash to be gifted to a friend. Chelsea is now ready to go fabric shopping.

Leslie displayed two items. Her cat features the Wellness Farm Stitchers label as the cat collar - how clever. This will be incorporated into a larger quilt for an individual who had worked for a cat rescue.

The scrappy triangles incorporate an off-center design with negative space and will be part of a “things fall apart” quilt in memory of a man with Alzheimer’s disease.

Debby M used a “quilty love” pattern with Anna Marie fabrics for this star design with black and white motifs which was topped off with a serpentine stitch for walking foot quilting.
Karen D wanted a large bag and so made this vibrant celestial themed
beauty.

Maike was thrilled to receive this pair of custom made shoes from molas4U.com. (check out the website for more colorful delights).

Maike used some of her QuiltCon charm packs for a star on white square. Made using FIGO fabrics.

She showed the quilt she received from her QuiltCon quilt exchange and a mini runner from remnants of the one she gave.

Deb L. has been busy designing her own fabrics using her Geometrica Design and Print app. The fabrics were then processed by Spoonflower.

Melanie worked on this lovely llama quilt during covid and plans to give it to a friend with a baby girl. The small runner was made from a Mini charm pack.

Donna has been busily infatuated with her fabric books, where she is learning “slow stitch” meditative techniques through K3Nclothtales (youtube, instagram and facebook)
